Seeking Marriage
When it comes to making marriage decisions, we always seek guidance first from Allah. The determination it takes for marriage to work is quoted as such: “marriage is half of your deen’ There are factors to be considered i.e finances or getting to know the family you are marrying into.
Bride’s Guardian- Wali
The bride must have a wali . This is usually her father, or if he is unavailable, her closest qualified male. The wali ensures the marriage is suitable and protects the bride’s interests.
Witnesses:
Once both parties soundly agree: The nikkah is the next step. In order for the Nikkah to be valid, two adult and mentally sound witnesses are required to validate the marriage. Typically, this involves either two males. They are responsible for confirming that the marriage agreement is conducted accurately and according to Islamic guidelines.
Mahr/Gift -Dowry
The mahr is a compulsory gift from the groom to the bride, forming a key part of the marriage agreement. Both the bride and groom must decide on it in advance. This gift can be anything of value, such as money, jewelry, property, or another item that holds significance for the bride.
Wedding/Walimah
In order to celebrate the marriage between the couple, public celebrations are organized in the form of wedding. This is also known as Walimah. There are variations from how the celebration is organized, however these celebrations do not have to involve luxury spending though given that the couple are just starting out a new journey.
