About Us
The Mu’Minun Health and Wellness Committee is dedicated to equipping our community with the latest health and wellness information, empowering individuals to take charge of their health and the well-being of their families. Through a proactive approach, we aim to foster informed decision-making and promote overall wellness within the Muslim community.
Our committee is committed to supporting our members with various outreach programs, including visitation, family support, and re-entry initiatives. By focusing on these efforts, we strive to build a healthier, more connected community that thrives together.
Our Mission
The mission of the Mu’Minun Health and Wellness Committee is to support the well-being of the Muslim community through a range of initiatives. We provide care and support to the ill and hospitalized through visitation and calls, conduct monthly educational sessions (ta’alim) on current health issues, and offer mental health resources for transitioning ex-convicts and those with lived experiences of mental illness. By focusing on relevant health information and actionable outreach, we aim to empower individuals to take charge of their health and well-being.
Our Values
We envision a knowledgeable and informed Islamic community that recognizes the importance of prioritizing health as a foundational necessity. By fostering awareness and understanding, we aim to positively impact individuals, families, and society as a whole. Our commitment to health and wellness empowers our community to live well, thrive together, and contribute meaningfully in every area of life
Our History
The Al Mu’minun Health and Wellness Committee was founded under the guidance of Imam Furqan Muhammad and Sister Nurse/Hajjah Daa’iyah Akbar in 2006. Sister Daa’iyah, who had recently moved to Atlanta from New Jersey via Nashville, brought with her invaluable experience from her previous work with health committees. At the Imam’s request, she began visiting the sick and hospitalized, which became the cornerstone of the committee's early work.
Under Sister Daa’iyah’s leadership, the committee established a medical office in the multi-purpose room, where Dr. Salih Faldon provided care at scheduled times. The committee hosted monthly ta’alim sessions to educate the community on various health topics and organized annual health fairs, creating a platform for holistic health awareness.
In 2011, Brother Anees Fardan joined the committee, bringing new energy and further developing its services. During this period, Sister Daa’iyah also opened a transitional re-entry home for brothers, demonstrating the committee’s commitment to addressing social and health challenges. After Brother Anees’s passing in 2022 and as Sister Daa’iyah faced health challenges, the committee became less active.
Both leaders envisioned a dynamic committee that would significantly enhance the community’s well-being and work collaboratively with other social groups in Atlanta. With this history as our foundation, we are now renewing our commitment to empower our community with knowledge, resources, and services, striving to create a thriving model for the pleasure of Allah.
